My Mother Said
Project Overview
Show Don't Tell.
This illustrated book is a collaboration between artist Emilio Silva and writer Simon Silva, offering a tender exploration of the quiet, powerful ways that mothers express love—often without words.
Written by Simon Silva and brought to life through Emilio Silva’s expressive gouache illustrations, the book captures everyday gestures of care, sacrifice, and connection that speak volumes. From a packed lunch to a reassuring glance, each page celebrates the subtle, often unspoken language of maternal love.
The gouache medium was chosen for its warmth and texture, evoking both intimacy and nostalgia. The illustrations balance simplicity with emotional depth, allowing readers of all ages to recognize their own stories within the pages. This project is more than a picture book—it’s a personal tribute and a universal reminder that love is often felt most deeply in what’s done, not just what’s said.
